Our Twin Cities Marathon training program will begin on June 25th, 2008. We say "You too can run a marathon!" And it is focused on the first time marathoner. Our goal is to keep you injury free while you do sufficient training to complete the marathon. We want you to have a great time from day one of your training until you cross the finish line with a smile on your face!

Art Liberman, a world famous marathon coach say's
"The biggest challenge of the marathon is not the ability to finish the race but rather, the task of making it to the starting line both rested & healthy". We agree with that & consequently recommend only running 3 days most weeks. However, we urge the runners to do lots of cross-training for maximum total fitness. The basic running schedule calls for minimal running, and very gradual, careful increases in both weekly mileage and in the length of the weekend long run. The days you are not scheduled to run you should cross-train. What you do to cross-train is up to you. You may go to a club and work out on fitness machines, weight machines or free-weights. Or you may bike or stationary bike, swim or deep water running. The list goes on. Walking or hiking are wonderful forms of cross-training. Days of total rest are important too.

The weekly classroom sessions will cover attitude, persistence, sportsmanship, running ettiquete, schedule, journaling, safety, equipment, injury prevention, cross training, nutrition, local geography of trails and facilities, intro to track, hill and stair workouts, visualization, motivational presentations & race day preparation. The marathoners will meet after the marathon for a post race party, where everyone will tell their marathon story and give feedback on their training
